The talk will cover what unconscious bias is, why it matters and what we can do in organizations to avoid the negative impact of unconscious bias. Even the most open-minded people can have several unconscious biases. Implicit beliefs – including doubts about their abilities – can lead to missing opportunities and so stop people from reaching the top.

Ita O'Sullivan
Ita O’Sullivan is Startup Community Manager in Bank of Ireland. She has previously worked as Design and Deployment Lead in Google. She is passionate about diversity and inclusion in startups. On a daily basis Ita works to help Cork startups thrive, she does this by providing practical and useful resources for emerging businesses, including Workbench – a free and professional environment for startups to work from on 70 Patrick St.

Astrid Wingler; Professor of Plant Biology/Head of Plant Science in the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES) of University College Cork. She currently chairs the Athena SWAN self-assessment team at the School of BEES.
