Stemminist Book club are currently discussing “Testosterone Rex: Unmaking the Myths of our Gendered Minds” by Cordelia Fine, the third book that they have chosen. WITS Ireland are delighted to run this event and after the successes of our previous book club events, we look forward to another great discussion!

Many people believe that, at its core, biological sex is a fundamental force in human development. According to this false-yet-familiar story, the divisions between men and women are in nature alone and not part of culture. Drawing on evolutionary science, psychology, neuroscience, endocrinology, and philosophy, Testosterone Rex disproves this ingrained myth and calls for a more equal society based on both sexes’ full human potential.

Professor Cordelia Fine is an academic psychologist and writer. Cordelia’s book, Delusions of Gender was short-listed for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Non-Fiction, the Best Book of Ideas Prize 2011, the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize 2010 and the biannual international cross-genre Warwick Prize 2013. She is a regular contributor to the popular media, including the New York TimesWall Street JournalMonthly and New Statesman. She is also the author of A Mind of Its Own, and wrote the introduction for the Britannica Guide to the Brain. Cordelia’s latest book, Testosterone Rex won the Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize 2017 and was named an Amazon Best Book of the Year so far.
