WITS recently worked with Mediaplanet on the 2019 Women in STEM Ireland campaign. A printed publication was enclosed within every copy of the Irish Independent newspaper on 27 June 2019 and the content is available online. The campaign featured exclusive content from key thought leaders and industry voices about the importance of empowering women to embark into STEM careers.
WITS Chair Julie Hogan writes about Starting Your STEM Career. The article is adapted from a series of articles published by WITS to help with early career planning, it helps when wondering where to go next. This series led to a life sciences careers forum in February 2019 in Dublin. A similar event is being planned for Galway and Cork. Some stats about Equality in STEM in Ireland compiled by WITS as well as another Top Five Tips for Employers were also in the paper supplement.
There's a great set of articles about women in STEM. Do read. We're delighted to see Professor Lisa Looney of DCU mention WITS work in her article Game-changer: women recognising tech-based degrees as broad, fit-for-future and a place they will be comfortable. She also mentions a DCU careeers booklet A World of Opportunities available here and argues that tech and science degrees are flexible multi-opportunity degrees fit for the future. Reflecting Aer Lingus's current campaign to recruit women pilots there's an article by Rachel Cull a First Officer Dedication is more important than gender in aviation.
