WITS is running its successful Healthcare and STEM Career Forum in Galway on Saturday 14 September 2019 at Portershed.

The WITS life science career forum will have key speakers and attendees from leading companies in Diagnostics, Industry, Business and Healthcare. There will be talks on better understanding types of roles available to life science graduates and advice on how to move within the life science field.
We will have an open panel for questions and answers and experts on hand at the meet and greet session. The speakers will provide tangible and practical tips and advice from their experience in this field. There will be a number of speakers and Q&A panel at the end as well as time to network and meet professionals in the field.
The event will be particularly useful for School and University career guidance, 3rd level students, graduates of life sciences courses, people wanting to change within life science and people wanting to enter into this area maybe as a mature student.

Susan Treacy is a Business Consultant specialising in healthcare and owner of Treacy Healthcare Consulting. Since completing her Masters in Medicine (Biomed. Sci.) in 1998 at Queen’s University she has worked in Pathology laboratories in Ireland and Australia. She then moved into the business aspect of diagnostics, holding roles in Application Support, Sales and Marketing, Management and Directorship.
In early 2016 she founded Treacy Healthcare Consulting and provides healthcare businesses and laboratories with a number of services including operational and strategic advice, business development requirements and the establishment of distribution networks specific to life sciences. She has a particular passion for finding solutions through innovation and collaboration, which will ultimately benefit the system and the patient. She works with WITS (Women in Technology and Science) to help encourage and support women to realise the many avenues and opportunities that Science and Engineering can offer. Dr Niamh Cosgrave PhD
Niamh is Director of Sales & Marketing for MedLab Pathology (MLP), a member of the Sonic Healthcare group of companies. In this role she is responsible for creating and delivering effective sales and marketing strategies, the delivery of sales budgets set by the board and plays a crucial role in the success of the company. Niamh has demonstrated the ability to drive significant growth through the application of strategic planning and analytical skills.
Niamh is an experienced leader within the pathology laboratory sector having worked in this area for over 13 years, holding roles in business development, account management, sales and marketing. Prior to working in MedLab Pathology Niamh worked in Biomnis Ireland (now Eurofins Ireland) for four years.
She graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a microbiology degree and then completed her PhD in molecular biology in the Conway Institute at University College Dublin.
Hazel Whelan, BSc, MSc. RecruitmentPlus Stillorgan, Co Dublin, Associate Director
Hazel Whelan holds a Diploma in Biomedical Science specialising in Haematology and Blood Transfusion (DIT, Kevin St), a BSc in Applied Science from Trinity College and an MSc in Clinical Immunology from Trinity College. She is a Fellow of the National Recruitment Federation of Ireland and has over 18 years Medical, Technical, Pharmaceutical and Scientific recruitment experience.
Lisa Scahill BSc MMedSc
Lisa Scahill has a Bachelor of Science Degree (Maynooth University) and a Masters in Biomedical Science (The Queens University Belfast). A highly experienced professional in all aspects of Clinical Trials, Lisa’s expertise has developed from working directly with clinical trial sites, with Contract Research Organisations (CRO) and within the Pharmaceutical Industry. During her time as a Clinical Study Manager in the Pharma Industry, Lisa was responsible for managing several large clinical studies across the EU. She also acted as Drug Safety officer within the Pharmacovigilance Department where she was instrumental in the implementation of the European Directives of 2001. In her current role as a Senior Oncology/Haematology Clinical Data Manager at the Mater Hospital in Dublin, Lisa is responsible for several highly complex Clinical Trials. In 11 years working within this dynamic clinical trials unit she has been heavily involved in many global studies which have resulted in changes in standard of care of many cancers. Lisa is fluent in Italian and she specialises in Breast Cancer and Melanoma research.
Lisa McNally, Pharmaceutical Physican and company director, Leitrim Life Sciences Ltd.
Lisa has degrees in Medicine and Epidemiology from the University of London. She spent 7 years in Clinical Paediatrics in the UK before moving to Durban, South Africa on a Wellcome Clinical Tropical Medicine Fellowship. Her work on the management of paediatric pneumonia in HIV endemic areas was published in The Lancet and contributed to WHO updating standard paediatric pneumonia management.
She moved to GSK Vaccines in Belgium as Medical Director, Clinical Development Lead for HIV vaccines, and then onto the GSK Pandemic Centre of Excellence during the H1N1 Pandemic. Since then she has worked primarily in benefit-risk, and has a particular passion in supporting start-ups and SMEs, such as setting up clincal development and pharmacovigilance. She has worked in most therapeutic areas including vaccines, infectious diseases, immunology and rare diseases. She founded Leitrim Life Sciences Ltd in 2015 and has recently moved to Galway which was a lifelong ambition.
Nicola Hickie - Regulatory and Policy Manager medical devices Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA).
Nicola is the Regulatory and Policy Manager for medical devices in the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA). Responsible for the development and implementation of medical device legislation and policy, Nicola's role involves engaging with internal and external stakeholders on the requirements of a changing regulatory environment, project management and team development.
