Her STEM Skills Think-In 30 June 2021

  • 6 July 2021

The first #HerSTEMSkills Expert Think In. on 30 June 2021 was incredible, both the energy in the virtual room and the response of the participants. Supported by Minister Simon Harris and his Department, experts from industry, academia and government came together to discuss four spotlight initiatives to develop and retain female talent in STEM.

It’s difficult to articulate the energy that was in our virtual room but we made connections and I don’t doubt that drove significant progress. Enthusiasm from attendees meant that we event trended No 1 in Ireland on Twitter!

Particular thanks to our Chair, Dr Andrea C. Johnson, all of our presenters, our Communications Lead Jean O'Donnell and all of our committee members for their input and assistance.

We’re looking forward to meeting the Minister in the next few weeks to continue this important conversation.

The four Spotlight Initiatives were:

  1. Convene accelerated skills hub Siobhán Dean, Ibec. Anne Greene Technological University Dublin
  2. Women Returners Kathryn Cullen & Ciara Garvan
  3. A Framework to Identify High-Potential Women & Support them onto the First-Rung of the Leadership Ladder. Dr Marie Connolly University of Limerick, Majella Henchion Engineers Ireland & Sarah Claxton ESB.
  4. STEM Passports. Katriona O'Sullivan, Maynooth University Thierry Lescrauwaet, UQ with Gemma Irvine, Maynooth University

We were delighted that Mark Jordan CEO Skillsnet joined the event with WITS Chair Dr Andrea C Johnson. #event #diversity
