Inspiring children's books for Christmas 2019

Looking for some inspiring books for children's' Christmas presents. O’Brien Press has just published two new books that fit the bill.
Sarah Webb, illustrated by Graham Corcoran
This book of short profiles of Irish people who dared to dream and their amazing stories is a joy. It’s stories of extraordinary people are inspiring. The women in STEM celebrated range from Maude Delap marine biologist and jellyfish expert, to Agnes Mary Clerke science writer, to Cynthis Evelyn Longfield entomologist, dragonfly expert and explorer. Of today’s scientists Sarah Webb, the author, celebrates Professor Susan McKenna-Lawlor a great supporter of WITS.
Men in STEM are not forgotten and the book profiles William Parson, the engineer and astronomer, George Boole the mathematician and Ireland’s only science Nobel prize winner Ernest Walton.

Illustrated by Jennifer Farley
Dr Norah Patten writes a most engaging book for all children. She tells story of how she wants to go to space. She explores space and the life of an astronaut. She tells of how she has wanted to be an astronaut since she was eleven years old.
Her exploration of space is clear and magical. She conveys the wonder of space its scientific story. Space programs and getting into space are explained and the illustrations by Jennifer Farley support the text so well. Her experiences in preparing to go to space inform the text. We hope you get there Norah!
Norah’s passion for space comes through every page and Jennifer’s illustrates this. Thank you both, a great book and thanks to O’Brien Press.
