Lab Coats and Lace e-book now available

  • 7 January 2020

Lab Coats and Lace is available as a Kindle ebook at £4.50.

The Lab Coats and Lace ebook was launched on 4 January 2020 at Airfield Estate, Dundrum at a most enjoyable WITS event for Nollaig na mBan.

Edited by WITS founder Mary Mulvihill, Lab Coats and Lace - the Lives and Legacies of Irish Inspiring Women Scientists and Pioneers was published in 2009 and developed as a ebook by Dr Rebecca O'Neill WITS Secretary.

The event was chaired by Julie Hogan WITS Chair and the ebook was launched by Dr Marion Palmer the first WITS Treasurer. Contributor Éanna ní Lamhna spoke about Professor Phyllis Clinch and her legacy.

Marion spoke about the founding of WITS by Mary Muivihill and its launch in November 1990 when there were no group to speak for women in science. WITS focus was to recruit, retain, return and revere women in STEM. Remembering and revering our scientific grandmothers was one of the first projects undertaken by WITS and the first book Stars Shells and Bluebells was published in 1997. Lab Coats and Lace followed in 2009.

All enjoyed speaker Éanna ní Lamhna discussing her contribution to the book, she brought Phyllis Clinch to life. We enjoyed her vivid telling of Phyllis’s first year lectures in UCD.

The launch was followed by networking and nibbles in the beautiful surrounds of Airfield.

Thanks to everyone who came to the launch. Thank you, Rebecca O'Neill for all the work you put in to make the ebook!! Thanks to our speakers, to Dr Marie Barrett for organising the event, to Magaly Mora for the photographs and to Airfield Estate for hosting it.
