Mary Mulvihill Plaque unveiled 6 November 2021

  • 7 November 2021

WITS founder Mary Mulvihill (1959-2015) is remembered this November. A plaque commemorating Mary's life and work was unveiled last Saturday 6 November at her home in Manor St, Dublin 8. WITS Vice-Chair Dr Rebecca O'Neill and Mary's husband Brian Dolan are shown with the plaque at the unveiling.

The plaque was unveiled by Leo Enright, the science journalist, and a great friend of Mary. The event was opened by Nóirín Mulvihill one of the Co-Chairs of the Assocation and Mary's sister. Dr Rebecca O'Neill WITS Vice-Chair and National Secretary (and WITS representative) on the National Committee for Commemorative Plaques in Science and Technology spoke on behalf of WITS and the Plaques Committee.

Mary's plaque is the 72nd plaque organised by the Plaques Committee and the first to a science communicator although many of the others plaques honor women, such as Agnes Clerke and Maude Delap, who communicated science to the public.

WITS was delighted to be at the event celebrating Mary's work and life. Thanks to the Mary Mulvihill Association and Brian Dolan for hosting the event and thanks to Frank MIller for the photgraphs.
