Women in Maths Day 2018

  • 29 July 2018

Women in Maths Day Ireland aims to advance gender equity in the mathematical sciences in Ireland, while also being a forum to encourage, support, and inspire women at all stages of their education and careers.

Talks and poster presentations will be given by women and men from both academia and industry. This year the conference is being held at UCD on Wednesday 29 August 2018. Anyone interested in mathematics is invited to attend but it is already booked out.

This year the conference celebrates and acknowledges the work of Sheila Tinney in the mathematical sciences and marks the centenary of her birth. Sheila was the first Irish woman to receive a PhD in Mathematics, was the first female fellow of DIAS (Dublin Institute of Advanced Studies), was one of the first four women to be admitted to the Royal Irish Academy and also lectured at UCD.

WITS is delighted to sponsor the presentation of a print of the Vera Klute portrait of Sheila Tinney to the UCD College of Science and to support the attendance of a student at the event.
